The VELA vacation apartments are unique for Ahlbeck. Their architecture differs from other new buildings, which often imitate the historicizing style of spa architecture. The designs by Pott Architects from Berlin and London interpret the formal language of the Kaiserbäder in a contemporary way. The building blends harmoniously into the townscape.
Concept
Old and new combine at the seaside
In the upper part on Goethestraße stands the listed Villa Frithjof in the architectural style of the Gründerzeit. This stylish example of maritime seaside architecture is being thoroughly renovated. Adjacent to it are the new buildings with the arcades, the stores and the entrance on the slightly sloping Rathenaustraße.
The lifestyle of nature, beach, and sea
The spacious lobby, the elegant, wellness area and the modern apartments are designed by the interior designers of GBP Architects, known for international projects such as the famous Soho House with the restaurant Cecconi’s, the Amano Hotel in Berlin, the Industry City in Brooklyn or the 540 West in NY.

412,500 square kilometers of Baltic Sea waves
The beach at Ahlbeck is so extensive that it is rarely crowded. Athletes enjoy the atmosphere early in the morning while jogging and artists rave about the light of the Kaiserbäder. Walkers enjoy breathing the healthy sea air on Germany’s oldest pier. The famous landmark leads 280 meters out to sea. Its open café with corner towers makes the structure unmistakable.

In a prominent beach location
With their loggias and staggered facades, the four building sections with the vacation apartments pick up on maritime elements of the neighboring villas. Most of the building sections of the VELA vacation apartments have four floors plus a staggered floor. A restaurant with bar and large outdoor terrace will open in a prominent, direct beach location on the corner of Strandpromenade/Rathenaustraße. It will invite its guests with refreshing drinks after a day at the beach and regional and international dishes from an excellent cuisine.

Each VELA vacation apartment offers personal access to an extraordinary spa landscape. This is composed of a spacious swimming pool, various saunas and steam baths with Kneipp paths and fresh air zones, relaxation areas with loungers and hot water beds, ice fountains, tea stations as well as quiet zones with an open fireplace. Those who prefer to relax with a workout will be delighted with the gym – and with a massage afterwards.

A construction site of superlatives
In the immediate vicinity of the beach and under special challenges, a construction project with new standards is being built. Two-story underground parking and a total of five interconnected buildings will grow together in 2022 to form an impressive hotel complex. Drone shots from the winter of 2020/2021 only hint at the scale of the VELA project by the sea.
